In January of 2011, an enthusiastic group of Muslims and non-Muslims from across America convened for a three-day forum on the state of diversity in the nation's Muslim community.  They discussed obstacles that stood in the way of bringing people together, and they proposed many solutions.  Among them was the possibility of an event that would involve not only discussions and interaction among members from different communities, but direct immersion into the communities themselves.  By the end of the conference, the idea for the first annual CIOM Mosque Tour had captured several attendees' interest.

On November 12th, participants will board a bus to begin the day's journey to ten historic mosques and heritage sites shared by the Muslim community in Metro Detroit.  The attendees, themselves a group spanning a wide range of ages and cultural backgrounds, will have a chance to learn about the different communities that have flourished in Michigan as they tour locations in Dearborn, Detroit, and Hamtramck.
